Ian’s Update January 2018

First this month some excellent news for the Group; James Corke and Jacob Partington, both of 1st Taverham, were successful after the World Jamboree selection weekend, taking 2 of the 3 places from Northern Norwich District!

The 24th World Scout Jamboree to be held in West Virginia, USA in 2019 and will be an adventure beyond anything you can imagine. It is to be hosted jointly between Boy Scouts of America, Scouts Canada and the Scout Association of Mexico. The UK Contingent will be made up of participants, their Unit Leaders, International Service Team and a Contingent Management and Support Team (UK Contingent Team). The Group has always provided support to participants in the past and I believe this is the first time we have had 2 people selected.

Last month the Beavers were visited by the Police, not because of naughtiness (!) but to learn about Police equipment and how to stay safe when in our local neighbourhood and online. They also have been visiting Tesco, tasting & making muesli and learning about healthy snacks. Many thanks to Tesco for this!

Two Beavers (Charlie Holmes & Phoebe Blois) have now received their Chief Scout’s Bronze Award – the highest achievement in Beavers -so very well done to them! This is a real challenge and only possible due to the amazing variety of activities the leadership team provide. It would be lovely to offer more local children such opportunities.
