Ian’s Update August 2014

Group  Joining List – We are able to temporarily re-open the list.  This can be accessed by clicking here and completing the relevant online form.  Membership starts at 6 years old with Beaver Scouts.

All sections have been enjoying the good weather and getting outside. The Beavers have had an introduction to fire lighting and their first taste of campfire smores! (chocolate biscuit & melted marshmallow sandwich!)

The Cubs have been working towards two new badges (Fire Safety & Backwoods Cooking) and the Scouts have been launching water rockets 40ft into the air!

All sections have been preparing for their summer camps:-

  • The older Beavers and younger Cubs went to a District camp at Reepham on the 27/28th June.
  • The two Cub packs had a joint camp at 2nd Hellesdon on the 11/12/13th July with 30 Cubs attending!
  • The Scouts are preparing for NORJAM the Norfolk Scout Jamboree at the Showground during the week of 9 – 16th August.

Toby Barnes has joined the leadership team as Assistant Leader for Monday Cubs. Toby who recently moved to Taverham comes with a Scouting background as his parents were members of the 1st Wells Scout Group – welcome Toby.

Leaders James Wilson and Frances Addington have recently gained their shooting permits so the group now has five leaders able to run air rifle target shooting.

Fraser Rudd & Luke Edmunds (Young Leaders) have gained their Younger Leader belt (YL equivalent to the Adult Wood badge training qualification) – congratulations Fraser.

Adult Support

Reminder that we are still seeking more adults to volunteer to help run our sections.

It would be fantastic to be able to re-open our 2nd Beaver Scout Colony so that boys and girls aged 6-8 can start their Scouting and learn the vast array of practical and social skills on offer.

If you are aged 18 or over, with a desire to do something and put support back into the community then please get in touch.  Taverham Scout Group reaches it’s 50th birthday in 2015 and literally ‘000s of children have passed through the Group in that time.

Don’t worry if you have no experience – full support and training is provided and all adults are subject to DBS(CRB) checks.

It would be fantastic in the new term to open a 2nd colony and increase capacity to over 120 children in the area.

If you or someone you know wants to play a part in helping the next generation then please contact me.

Meanwhile we hope you enjoy your summer holidays and we look forward to a new term and Scouting year in September!
