News Update July 2021

It has been a real delight to return to face to face Scouting after doing months of virtual meetings.

The Beavers have been very busy this half-term.

We are very grateful to the Exec team who maintain the grounds and have erected outdoor shelters to enable us to meet outdoors, even when the weather is wet and cold. This has been very important to ensure our meetings abide by COVID regulations. We are also finding ingenious ways to prevent sharing of equipment, such as make-your-own hockey sticks- out of A3 paper!!!

Our new leader Adam led a very enjoyable International-themed meeting exploring Mexican food & language. We have also made swords and shields out of recycled cardboard to celebrate St George (the patron saint of Scouting) and have been learning how to use a compass and maps to navigate.

We are also learning about the importance of physical and mental health and have been practising a simple outdoor yoga routine on carpet tiles, which all the Beavers (and Young leaders) seem to really enjoy!

The last meeting of the half term focused on campfires, a Scouting staple activity. Luckily the rain stopped just in time so all the Beavers could learn how to safely build and light their own, mini campfire. We look forward to some warmer, drier weather for the next half term!

A big thanks to our super supportive & patient Young leaders: James, Will, Ryan and Megan and to the Beaver leadership team of Mark, Penny, Sue & Adam for all their enthusiasm and commitment to Beaver Scouting in Taverham.’
